Harvey Update - Ship Breaks from Dock and Sinks Tugboat - Port of Corpus Christi Still Closed
A 449 foot oil drilling ship broke from its mooring Saturday, sinking a tugboat and beached in the channel’s entrance to the Gulf of Mexico.
The Port of Corpus Christi remains closed.
It can’t reopen until the Army Corps of Engineers inspects it and the beached ship is removed, and that’s not happening any time soon.
The Coast Guard rescued the crew of the sunken tug.
The bad weather that continues to pound Houston is not making it any easier for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who haven't been able to assess the damage in order to approve the port reopening.
The ship is owned by Paragon Offshore. According to the company's statement on Monday, the crews of both ships have been accounted for and are safe.
