Alumnus Jack Buono Named New USMMA Superintendent
U.S. Maritime Administrator Mark H. Buzby has announced that Jack Buono will become the new superintendent of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) as of November 9, 2018.
Buono graduated with a Bachelor of Science from USMMA in 1978. He served honorably as a commissioned U.S. Naval Reserve Ensign and moved up the ranks from USCG-Licensed Third Mate to Master Mariner while working for ExxonMobil. In 1991, he joined SeaRiver Maritime, ExxonMobil’s shipping subsidiary, and worked his way to become SeaRiver's President and CEO.
Maritime Administrator Buzby wholeheartedly supports the academy's decision, stating in a recent gCaptain article, “As a Kings Point graduate who spent his entire career in maritime leadership roles, Mr. Buono will help educate and inspire the next generation of maritime cadets. He has impeccable credentials on the waterfront and, as an alumnus, fully understands the Academy’s mission to provide its students with the highest caliber of training and education needed to lead afloat and ashore.”
Kudos and best wishes to Jack Buono and USMMA's future graduates!
